Chi Chi LaRue Re-releases “Billboard” on DVD

WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Legendary gay director Chi Chi LaRue has announced the rerelease of the first-ever video he directed for Catalina Video. “Billboard” was originally released in 1989 and stars iconic performer Joey Stefano in his on-screen debut for Catalina, with co-star Vic Summers.

Channel 1 Releasing, which is co-owned by LaRue, acquired Catalina Video’s extensive library in August, and now owns the rights to hundreds of videos directed by LaRue as well as well-known directors John Travis, Scott Masters and Josh Eliot.

In her early work with Catalina, LaRue used the name “Taylor Hudson” because of concerns that audiences would not react well to a feminine name on a boxcover.

“Billboard” star Joey Stefano was discovered by LaRue and went on to become one of the most recognized gay performers of the late ‘80s and early ‘90s.

Channel 1 Releasing intends on remastering and rereleasing several more titles from the Catalina catalog including “French Lieutenant’s Boys,” “Big Guns,” “The Bite,” “In Hot Pursuit,” “Leo & Lance,” “Sailor in the Wild,” “Jawbreaker,” “Motel California” and what has been called one of the best gay videos of all time, “Powertool,” directed by John Travis and starring Jeff Stryker.

LaRue recently announced that she would also direct “Powertool 3” and is currently searching for a model to fill the lead role.
