Video-X-Pix Releases ‘Golden Age’ Titles on DVD

NEW YORK — Video-X-Pix has brought three classic adult movies to DVD for the first time with the releases of “A Taste of Pink,” “Time to Love” and “The Young Starlets,” currently in stores.

Steven Morowitz, co-owner of Video-X-Pix, told XBiz the decision to put the titles out on DVD was based on consumer demand from fans who want to mix a few of the classics into their collections.

"Video-X-Pix gives consumers an alternative to gonzo and wall-to-wallers,” Morowiz said, “and even though we're fans of the newer stuff, our movies provide story lines, drama and stars that you won't find today."

All three titles were originally produced between 1973 and 1984, a period often referred to as adult cinema’s Golden Age because the movies were shot on film, with full scripts and big-name stars.

"In the movies we're releasing, you'll find some of the biggest names to ever be in adult,” Morowitz said. “You have the women who are still known by fans today, like Amber Lynn, Gina Carrera, Karen Summer and Barbie Dahl. Guys like Joey Silvera, who now directs for Evil Angel, is in one of the movies, as well as Paul Thomas, Vivid's most celebrated director, who were still fairly new to the business then. Their scenes, and the movies as a whole, hold up in today's all-sex marketplace."

Morowitz said the titles were owned by his father, Arthur Morowitz, who held off on selling or distributing Video-X-Pix’s catalog because he always felt there would be a new format on the horizon to replace video.

When the elder Morowitz turned out to be right, the younger Morowitz decided to start remastering selected titles. He said Video-X-Pix will release additional classics on DVD in the future for the benefit of older fans who first saw them in theaters as well as a new generation of fans.

"We're looking to mix the earlier classics of the early '70s with the newer Golden Age titles of the early '80s,” he told XBiz. “We don't want to just release films from one particular time. We'd rather release a mix and not diminish one particular part of our catalog."
