“This is a niche that is untapped and we feel we are the perfect fit,” Trashy Lingerie President Randy Shrier said. “These costumes are so beautiful and well made that they can be displayed openly in a store and not stacked en masse in plastic bags. Quality and fit of the new line must meet Trashy Lingerie’s high standards.
“Women want to know that they are wearing something unique,” Shrier said. “They don’t want to go to a Halloween party and see scores of other women in the same outfit or costume.”
An official unveiling and party will be held at the Playboy Club, located at the Palms Hotel and Casino, in Las Vegas, on March 16. The event will be cohosted by Bridget Marquardt of E!’s reality show “The Girls Next Door,” as well as the models of TrashyGirls.com.
Trashy Girl model and former Digital Playground contract star Sophia Santi will also be on hand for the festivities.
Since 1973, Trashy Lingerie has had one storefront location in Los Angeles. Customers pay a $2 membership fee to shop at the exclusive retail boutique, which manufactures all its merchandise in-house with seamstresses that work in their downtown warehouse facility. The store boasts a celebrity clientele and custom tailoring for hard-to-fit figures.
Though costumes are sold year-round, during the Halloween season, which starts for Trashy seamstresses in August, the company will process more than 5,000 orders for costumes. Prices can range from $100 to more than $400 per outfit, with accessories.
“Because Halloween is our busiest season, we thought we would start with the Halloween market,” Trashy Lingerie President Mary Loomis-Shrier told XBIZ.
The new wholesale line will be manufactured offshore, in order to increase production while targeting a lower price point, at two-thirds to one-half of the retail price of Trashy costumes made in the U.S.
“It’s going to be the same quality as our costumes in the store,” Loomis-Shier said. “Everything is made from the same materials.
“Another thing that is interesting is that every line that we produce will only be sold in a limited number of costumes and we will never duplicate the costumes again,” Loomis-Shrier added. “It’s all limited edition costumes, and what that does for us is automatically creates ‘vintage’ Trashy.”
Thirty costumes will be featured at the launch event and modeled by TrashyGirls.com’s Miki Black, Tabitha Taylor, Vilayna, Celeste Trinh, Davida Sullivan, Mary Riley, Carrie Ann Stelzer, Misty Orman, Erika Seifred and original Trashy Girl Bridget Silvestri.
