New Program Aggregates Social Networking Activity Into One Feed

BOULDER, Colo. — A new program lets social-networking addicts keep an eye on their networks of contacts across multiple websites at the same time.

SocialThing displays a continuous feed that shows the online activity of all friends from multiple social networking websites, including Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and Digg, among others.

Online guru Brandon Shalton told XBIZ that using social networking websites as a platform for viral marketing campaigns remains popular in the adult industry.

"Jenna Jameson has over a million friends on MySpace," said Shalton, who founded the traffic analysis service T3Report.com. "So yes, people are using it."

SocialThing has emerged as a competitor with FriendFeed, which also collects information from multiple social networking websites.

One advantage SocialThing users have, though, is the ability to participate on their social networking sites directly through SocialThing's interface. For example, a Twitter user could post to their profile through SocialThing's iPhone application.

Adult star Nikki Benz maintains profiles on several social networking sites, including MySpace and Facebook, and she pointed out that both of those sites already feature internal feeds that keep track of her friends' activities.

Although Benz doesn't see herself using SocialThing, she told XBIZ she hopes others will.

"I hope my fans all use it," she said. "It would be more useful for me if they used it so they could keep track of what I was up to."

But Digital Playground Director of Internet Cody Bangs told XBIZ that adult stars may have a good reason to keep track of their fans' activities.

"It would take a different kind of star," he said. "I don't think a contract star would have much use for [SocialThing], but an independent star, a girl out there on her own, I think she might have more use for it. Some stars might want to keep track of everyone."

Interested users can register for an invitation to SocialThing at their official website or through the invite service InviteShare.com.
