Interviewed by Robert Meyer Burnett, the article details Cross’ geek obsessions, which includes Monty Python, Marvel superheroes and “Star Wars” action figures, among others.
“It makes sense that they would interview a porn director,” Cross said. “After all, geeks and porn go together like handcuffs and romance. I think the guys at the magazine just wanted to prove that not all of us live in our parents’ basement surrounded by toys. Some of us live in lofts with dungeons … surrounded by toys.”
Burnett’s assessment of Cross’ adult movies is glowing: “Known for his combination of densely plotted storylines and extended, raunchy, plasma-searing sex scenes, Cross’ visionary work is to the new millennium of porn what the work of Radley Metzger, Andrew Blake and the Dark Brothers were to previous decades of transcendent dirty movies.”
SexZ Pictures President Bo Kenney was pleased with Cross’ mainstream coverage, though he’s a geek of a completely different order.
“Hell, I’ve got a lot of toys, but mine are race cars and motorcycles and boats,” says Kenney. “I’ve always known there was a part of Eli that was about 13 years old, I just try not to think about it.”
