David Lord Inks Nonexclusive Helming Pact With Smash

CHATSWORTH, Calif. — Production company Smash Pictures has signed director David Lord to a nonexclusive deal calling for one video a month. He will shoot with his own crew, which includes DCypher on BTS camera.

Lord will take over Smash's "Whale Tail" series, the last volume of which was released in late 2006. The next volume will shoot next week for a June release.

"They're giving me their best-selling line," Lord told XBIZ. "I'm honored. There are two weird things that always get me: the way the top of a girl's ear peeks through her hair, and whale tails. When I got the call, I was really excited.

"The cool thing about Smash is that they really care about the product. Stuart is really involved in the casting of the movies, and they're very particular about the guys they use."

Smash Pictures Vice President Stuart Wall was pleased with the deal. "It takes a keen eye to find that right guy," Wall said. "I've been watching David Lord's work, and feel he has a sense for what we're after."
