Outbreak Marketing President Gabe Fieramosco told XBIZ that awareness of social networks as a marketing tool has skyrocketed over the last two years, since he founded Outbreak in late 2006.
“I remember when I first spoke to Tera [Patrick] about it, she thought MySpace was just a pick up site,” Fieramosco said. “Where we’ve come in the last two years as far as people really beginning to see the power of marketing done through social networking sites and blogging sites and viral marketing sites is really starting to catch on.
“The adult industry, to its credit, has always been ahead of the curve on things like this, especially the Internet and other technology,” he said. “They’re very forward technology thinking. I think that my clients in the adult industry have gotten more of a handle on it than people in other industries have at this point.”
Outbreak tailors individual strategies for clients, depending on what results they would like to achieve.
“For our adult clients we do everything from sending friend requests from their MySpace page, posting bulletins to promote their events, posting blogs, sending comments to their friends — that kind of thing,” Fieramosco said. “So, we do all kinds of options, depending on the client’s goals and who they’re trying to reach.
“Some clients may just want to get their MySpace numbers up, some may include the marketing and promotions out about their products or live appearances. Some clients like to do their bulletin posting on their own.”
Consistency is the key to successful viral marketing and upkeep of a blog or social network webpage, Fieramosco said. For an individual in the entertainment industry or even an average business owner, finding two hours a day to maintain bulletins, friend’s requests, comments and blog entries is not realistic.
“It’s an everyday effort and most people don’t have that kind of time in their day, to spend working on their MySpace page or Facebook page,” he said. “So that’s where we step in, for someone that is just too busy to deal with it on their own, we step in and help them out.”
Other Outbreak clientele includes adult business and celebrities like Digital Playground, Pink Visual, Taylor Wane, Adam & Eve, Sunny Leone, Dazza Del Rio, Cleo’s Boutique, as well as a roster of mainstream clientele including Top Cow Comics, Urban Ink magazine, MMA Edge magazine, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Anthrax and OT3P.
