Director and company CEO Peter Z. Pan said the cancellation was “a casualty of the tanking economy and other factors that are plaguing the gay porn industry right now.”
In its place, Pan will produce and direct the first film in a new stud pup line called “Twinks Finally 18.” He described the line as “a hybrid of hot twink sex, gonzo movies and bad reality shows,” with a camp twist along the lines of prior PZP titles like “The Da Vinci Load” and “Oliver Twink.”
“Pappa Mio!” was announced in early September in a fit of inspiration after Pan watched the film “Mamma Mia!” earlier this summer. “We plan to lampoon the hell out of the movie,” he told XBIZ at the time.
A month later, with dismal financial reports dominating the news, Pan said, “It just wasn’t feasible for us, a small independent studio, to produce a big-budget porn in this horrid economy. We are all in a perilous predicament in the porn industry right now.”
Pan also cited reasons beyond the economy. “Illegal file sharing sites and illegal ‘tube’ sites are hurting us all badly,” he said. “They are a plague upon our industry and I don’t care if I am trashed for saying that.”
