MONTREAL — Gay stripper and porn performer Luka Rocco Magnotta, the prime suspect in the dismemberment murder of a Montreal man identified by police today as 33-year-old Chinese student Jun Lin, is believed to be on the lam in Europe.
Commander Ian Lafrenière of the Montreal police said that Lin had moved to Canada to study and had recently dated Magnotta. Lin, whose torso was discovered Tuesday morning inside a suitcase next to a garbage dump near Magnotta's apartment residence, is said to have been killed on the evening of May 24.
Magnotta, who mailed Lin's severed foot to the Conservative Party of Canada's headquarters in Ottawa and attempted to send Lin's severed hand to the Liberal Party (it was intercepted by investigators at a postal terminal), fled for Europe on May 26, said police.
According to the DailyMail.com, Montreal police found evidence in Magnotta's apartment that suggests the 29-year-old alleged killer is in France and quite possibly disguised as a woman.
"He left a letter on a website mentioning how to disappear for good, and secondly, our investigation brought us some details that might let us think that he could be away from the country," Lafrenière said. "What will hinder him the most is what he used to glorify himself, the web."
In addition to the numerous photographs of himself and the animal torture videos he posted online, Magnotta reportedly videotaped and uploaded Lin's murder and dismemberment onto the web. Police, who have obtain video of the slaying, have not confirmed if it is the same footage made available online.
In the video, Magnotta is also seen raping Lin's lifeless body and ingesting chunks of his flesh.
Magnotta, who was romantically linked to Canadian serial killer Karla Homolka in 2007, got his start in porn doing webcam shows in Los Angeles at the age of 20. In a 2010 interview with NowPublic.com, he listed criminal law and psychology as his interests.
