Private TV Enters the Latin Market

BARCELONA — Private Media Group has announced plans to launch an adult cable TV channel for Latin America, in collaboration with Playboy TV Latin America (PTV LA).

Consumers will be able to purchase the new Private channel as a premium cable option, and the company says it will also launch a video-on-demand component sometime this year.

“We are very pleased with the strategic relationship we started with PTV LA in 2005 and the revenue growth expected in the near term in Latin America. This is a rapidly growing marketplace for adult entertainment and we will continue to provide expanded content offerings in the region. This is consistent with our overall global expansion on to new media platforms,” Private COO Peter Cohen said.

The channel will launch on various platforms throughout Latin America.

In Brazil, the Private channel will be available on NET, the country’s largest pay TV operator. In the Argentinean capital of Buenos Aires, cable TV operator Telecentro will broadcast the channel. The Central American countries of Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic will broadcast the channel through Telmex cable companies, which also provides service to the Caribbean.

Playboy TV Latin America is a joint venture between Playboy Group International and Claxson Interactive Group, and is the leading provider of adult programming in Latin America. Channels offered by the network include flagship Playboy TV, Venus, For Man and Lifestyle TV, in addition to the new Private channel.

“The agreements we have signed recently in Argentina, Brazil and Central America represent significant growth for our distribution deal with Private. Private has strong brand equity in Latin America, and we expect continued growth in the region in 2008,” Playboy TV LA executive vice president and general manager Mariano Varela said.
