Internet-Connected TV (Almost) Comes of Age

A walk around the recent Consumer Electronics Show (CES) or a perusal of the tech news since reveals an increasing number of TVs are Internet ready; and that although the services targeting these devices may be expanding rapidly, viewers are using these TVs the way they always have; frustrating the efforts of manufacturers and content marketers.

Ask The Attorney: Future of Obscenity Laws

That every action causes an equal and opposite reaction is not just a law of physics; I think it’s true in society as well. Moral conservatives can be expected to vent their frustration and rage at an advancing legal sexual agenda and the social changes that come with it — and they are likely to do so where they have the most influence —at the local and state level. When federal obscenity prosecution grinds to a halt — as it seems to have done — one can expect pressure for obscenity prosecutions directed at local district attorneys. In some cases, they will be welcomed by the local prosecutors who think that this might put them on the map as conservative leaders —and advance their political careers.

The Evolution and Diversification of Fetish Fashion

Fetish attire has come a long way since the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. In those days, fetish attire was much more underground than it is now. But with BDSM depictions showing up in everything from beer commercials to sitcoms to telenovelas these days, fetish fashions are much more ubiquitous than they were 30, 40 or 50 years ago — and with that ubiquity has come considerable diversification.

Futuristic Forms With 3D Printing Potential

It’s a long-held, common belief that sex drives technology and its mainstreaming. The advent of the Internet, VCR and camcorders often serve as examples of technology that has evolved and facilitated the consumption of adult content by bringing it into the everyday lives of society and enabling on-demand sexual gratification. Could pleasure products go the way of adult movies with consumers creating their own functional playthings at home?

Involuntary Stars?

During the last few years, one of the Internet’s controversial topics has been “revenge porn” or “involuntary porn” — that is, websites that post nude or erotic photos of people (mostly women) without their consent. High-traffic revenge porn sites can be quite profitable, making money from online advertising (especially from adult dating sites). Yet revenge porn sites operate much differently from standard porn sites, which typically use content from professional adult models who wanted the public to see them nude and received payment for their work. Major adult membership and webcam sites, in fact, are often inundated with applications from aspiring porn models. But revenge porn sites are known for publishing nude photos of women that might have been taken by exboyfriends or ex-husbands, and critics of revenge porn have stressed that the women didn’t agree for those photos to be published online.

Legal Concerns Unique to Adult Entertainment Companies

It is no coincidence that the adult entertainment industry has an abundance of skillful attorneys who devote much of their time to advising the industry. From 2257 to billing matters to California Assembly Bill 332 to obscenity prosecutions, the adult industry has an abundance of legal and regulatory concerns that need to be addressed. And five sectors of the industry that have much to discuss when it comes to laws and regulations are membership pay sites, live webcams, the gay sector, billing and dating.
