Optimization Key for the Mobile Market

With global mobile data traffic more than doubling for the fourth year in a row, and the number of mobile-connected devices expected to exceed the world’s population in 2012, savvy adult companies are invariably looking for ways to increase their mobile offerings. Because trends in the mobile market tend to be more dynamic than the rest of the web, content is pivotal to cementing the relationship consumers have with their favored brands.

Current trends for content conversions vary by country, however localized webmasters with the best organic (SEO) traffic appear to generate the most clear-cut conversion ratios. As with the rest of the web, dating and chat traffic trend toward higher conversion ratios, although tube sites – while tremendously popular, don’t convert nearly as well as might be expected as most users are shrewd enough to know how to access that content for free, proving that the most popular content doesn’t necessarily make the most money. TGP-style mobile sites also trend toward high conversions.

Content delivery is a significant consideration for those adult businesses looking to launch or add to their mobile wares.

Content delivery is a significant consideration for those adult businesses looking to launch or add to their mobile wares. Subscription price points work very well in a multitude of countries, and in many cases, subscribed mobile users retain for much longer than the average web user.

Native apps are currently the preferred method for mobile users to gain access to their favorite content, but native apps come with limitations for the adult industry. For example, Apple’s App Store doesn’t allow the sale of native iOS applications containing adult content and the Google Play Store, (the newly rebranded Android Marketplace) seems to be following in Apple’s footsteps with its rebranding – just recently banning the “Reddit is Fun” app for “sexually explicit content.”

Native applications also bring concerns about billing solutions as well as content restrictions and limitations, which may vary depending on compliance regulations of certain mobile carriers in different countries.

Optimization for the best display of mobile content must also be a consideration and the extent of its variety is dependent upon the end users location and their access to available mobile devices in that country. While smartphones like the iPhone and multiple Android OS offerings (Motorola Droid, HTC Evo, Samsung Galaxy Nexus, etc.) only represent 12 percent of total global handsets in use today, they represent over 82 percent of total global handset traffic, suggesting that those companies interested in monetizing their current global traffic would do well to optimize their content to accommodate the non smartphone handsets that are still prevalent in the majority of the world. Additionally, the number of mobile-connected tablets tripled to 34 million in 2011, and each tablet generated 3.4 times more traffic than the average smartphone. Mobile-connected tablets are expected to generate almost as much traffic in 2016 as the entire global mobile network in 2012, presenting a lucrative opportunity for content developers.

Content is still king, but it’s evident with the exponential growth of the mobile market, which shows no signs of slowing down any time soon, that mobile optimization will be key to delivering that content right to users hands.

Growing Site Revenue Under Ever-Changing Compliance Rules

Over the past year, many merchants have reported earnings that were flat or even a bit down. This is due to three main factors: age verification regulations, click-to-cancel rules, and banks backing away from cross-sales due to regulatory requirements and the rollout of the Visa Acquiring Monitoring Program (VAMP).
