InterNext: Las Vegas, January 2002: Day 1

The first day of the show was jam-packed and energy filled, with a very upbeat enthusiasm that stood in contrast to the laid back atmosphere of the previous "Summer Show." While some of the bigger names were not as visible as they were in year's past, many fresh faces were there to fill the void and try their hand in this arena...

Sunday Morning
I began the day by speaking at the first seminar "Educating Newbies: A summary of subjects every newbie should know." Accompanied by my old friends Colin Rowntree from Wasteland.com and Greg Geelan from the YNOT Network, the panel also included the informative Karen Cambell from Netbilling.com, and was moderated by my very favorite attorney, Frederick S. Lane III from SexBizLaw.com. This seminar was packed full of aspiring adult Webmasters, many of whom had yet to build their first site.

While the attendees learned quite a few nuggets of wisdom from our esteemed panel, I also learned a surprising tidbit: out of a large, full room (several hundred?) of primarily "newbie" Webmasters, ONLY ONE used a free host to provide a home for his site. In days past, the number would have been much higher, and I'm curious enough about this statistic to investigate it more thoroughly; but back to the show:

After my seminar most of the audience stayed put, anxious for the knowledge that the remaining seminars would bring, but I decided to take a look around the show floor, where I grabbed the following still photos and video clips to share with you. Click the pics for a closer look:

Night Time in Sin City
I just let Lady Jag out to prowl with Twinkley (Thanks!), LaurieX, Lady Sharlot, and a few other nice young ladies. I talked to my pal Connor from The Adult Webmaster for a bit, and now I'm back at work, sharing some of the sights and sounds of InterNext with you. CC Bill is said to be throwing quite a bash tonight, and we'll be stopping by after Twinkley brings LJ back.

And speaking of bashes, LJ and I'll then be heading to the Amateur Mega Bash ~ Of course, we'll still try to make it back to our hotel early enough that I can sleep before I speak at 10:30 on "The Traffic Generation: How to optimize your traffic revenue." Did somebody say "More Coffee?"

So, you ask "Why should I bother going to InterNext?"
Check out these Video Clips I shot earlier today and see for yourself!

There has been a lot of talk about changes to cross sales and checkout pages. You have likely noticed that acquirers are now actively pushing back on allowing merchants to offer a negative option, upsell or any cross sales on payment pages.

Merchants in Spotlight With Visa's VIRP

By now, most merchants know about the Visa Integrity Risk Program (VIRP) rolled out in spring 2023. The program is designed to ensure that acquirers and their designated agents — payment facilitators, independent sales organizations and wallets — maintain proper controls and oversight to prevent illegal transactions from entering the Visa payment system.

How to Know When Hosting Upgrades Are Really Needed

I was reminded about an annoyingly common experience that often frustrates website owners: upgrades. Sometimes, an upgrade of physical system resources like CPU, RAM or storage really is required to solve a problem or improve performance… but how do you know you’re not just being upsold?

WIA Profile: Natasha Inamorata

Natasha Inamorata was just a kid when she first picked up a disposable camera. She quickly became enamored with it and continued to shoot with whatever equipment she could afford. In her teens, she saved enough money to purchase a digital Canon ELPH, began taking portraits of her friends, shot an entire wedding on a point-and-shoot camera and edited the photos with Picnik.
