Post-Holiday Depression

Now that Christmas is over, things should start to regain some semblance of normalcy, right? Not necessarily.

Many of us tend to get that post-Holiday letdown. Yes, the Holidays were fun and great and all that, but now that they’re over, what do we do? Where’s the joy and the excitement that we knew just a few days ago?

Sadly, for a few webmasters, that depression takes over completely and we find ourselves floundering amidst lost revenue due to our lack of ambition - don't let this happen to you!

Pull yourself up and look at the things that need to be done. Most therapists agree that immersing oneself in work does wonders for the feelings of sadness, inadequacy, and desperation that are associated with post-Holiday depression.

The adult business certainly has its share of work to be done! Check your sites, tweak some things, make some galleries, send them to TGPs. Write some text, take some photos, do some calling, and for goodness sake, remember to shower and eat!

Don’t reflect solely on your failures. Learn from them. There is a saying that I have posted on my “To Do” board, (which is a thing I can’t possibly live without. My board is a big white board with the days of the week on it, specifying who gets what and when. If you don’t have one, I suggest you get one, or at least a planner of some sort, to keep yourself organized.), that reads, “Falling doesn’t make you a failure. Staying down does.”

There’s no reason at all to stay down. I realize this business can be rough sometimes, but letting it get you down is what leads to letting it make you quit.

And that’s really the root of it all. Your failure is YOURS. No one can help you to be a success more than you can. Post-Holiday depression can certainly make you want to throw in the towel and go find a day job, but if you do, are you going to regret it?

Certainly it would be much easier in the short-term to work for someone else and not have to worry about all the responsibility that the adult webmaster has. However, what you’re not considering is that you’ll have to work for someone else.

Wonderful Advantages
Working for yourself has some wonderful advantages. You are the boss. You have to be responsible for yourself and what you do, and ultimately, for your success. No one tells you what to do and when to do it. You will have to do that on your own...

All the money you make is yours. You are not paid by the hour, there is no such thing as overtime, and your earnings depend on the time and effort you put into it.

For those who are experiencing the post-Holiday blahs, though, please consider this: where would you be were it not for your experience in working in the adult industry? Would you be happier working for someone else? Would you be better off working for someone else?

If you said yes to the above, then alleviate your depression by going out and finding yourself a comfortable job somewhere. Make yourself happy and find whatever job security that comes with the job to which you are hired. There’s nothing wrong with that at all.

But if you said no, it’s time now to look at your work and yourself and do a serious amount of thinking. The New Year is here, and you want things looking sharp and bringing in the money. Make things fresh and celebrate yourself every day of your life.

Take care of yourselves and have a wonderful and prosperous New Year! ~ Tala
