Q&A: Lena Spanks Perfects the Clip Artist, Cam Model Game

Q&A: Lena Spanks Perfects the Clip Artist, Cam Model Game

Lena Spanks has naughty girl-next-door charisma, with plenty of kinky spikes and silky lingerie to make that curvaceous physique very worthy of worship.

And what is truly special about Spanks, besides her spank-worthy apple bottom magnificence, is just how much success she has achieved as both a cam model for Chaturbate and a clip artist for ManyVids.com.

The truth is, I’m always evolving. From new show ideas to new toys, new investments and new ways to reach my fans, I’m a strong believer that the key to success in this field (or any) is to adapt constantly.

The blonde stunner is bubbly as hell as well, with an iron backbone and confident communication skills that ensure she’ll dominate any domain. That’s why this plucky entrepreneur inspires desire, because behind the beauty, is a brilliant brain.

Is it any wonder that she was front and center on the clip artistry panel at XBIZ L.A., or that she was named an official ambassador of XBIZ Miami this year? Such talented minxes are good for business, attracting the eye as often as the ear, to tune in with great interest.

And what better way to celebrate the addition of clips to the XBIZ Cam Awards, and the increasingly blurred lines between two wildly successful sectors of the adult industry, than to spotlight one of the few rising stars that has mastered both?

To learn how Lena Spanks so thoroughly lays the smackdown on cam modeling and clip artistry, XBIZ danced with her in the pale moonlight of cyberspace, for this exclusive Cam Star of the Month interview!

XBIZ: What led you to become a cam model?

Spanks: For as long as I can remember, I have always loved sharing my sexuality with people. It all started when I was 18 and I would take pictures and videos on my phone to send to guys I was seeing. Most girls my age were terrified of the idea of taking nude pictures and videos in case they were ever leaked, but for me, it was ... exciting. After I would send a hot video playing with myself to guys, I would usually ask them if they showed them to their friends. The idea of them sharing my naughty little videos turned me on so much.

I started going onto porn sites to get ideas and that is when I stumbled upon a cam site. It all seemed too good to be true. The idea that I could log on and share my naughty side with thousands of people was a dream come true. I was still living with my parents so I would hop on cam when they were asleep to have some fun every once and awhile but I never took it seriously. It was just good fun.

A few months later, I was kicked out of my parent's house and had to find a new place of my own for the first time. Luckily for me, I qualified for welfare. After getting my first check and my first basement apartment with only $60 left for an entire month for food and bus money I became overwhelmed with stress.

That's when I went back to cam sites. I had never used them as a way to earn an income but I knew it was possible. I started logging on every night and began setting goals — and reaching them. Within the month I was able to get off welfare completely and for good. I paid my rent and other bills easily and began growing my brand and a living doing something I absolutely loved and I have never gone back.

XBIZ: How has your camming game evolved over the years?

Spanks: When I first started camming full-time, I was in a tiny, cluttered basement apartment with a small desk light and my laptop's camera and microphone. Over time I have upgraded every aspect of my camming to make it as professional as possible. I have bought multiple webcams, studio lighting, a professional mic and a streaming laptop. I invest as much as I possibly can to make my cam shows top quality.

Although all of that is important, it's not the only thing that’s evolved over the years. The truth is, I'm always evolving. From new show ideas to new toys, new investments and new ways to reach my fans, I'm a strong believer that the key to success in this field (or any) is to adapt constantly. Take a look at every other cam model out there, every new idea and think about how you can stand out and create a perfectly unique experience for your fans and customers. That's what I do every day.

XBIZ: What is your preferred cam network and why?

Spanks: My favorite cam network has always been Chaturbate. I love so much about this site — the apps and bots, the lack of pinning models against each other, the inclusiveness and the endless opportunities. Chaturbate is always up to date with the newest technology and I know I can rely on them to reach as many fans and customers as my heart desires. The traffic on that site is phenomenal — and as someone who enjoys showing my naughty side to the world, I couldn't think of a better site with anywhere close to as much traffic to do so.

XBIZ: Besides achieving success as a cam model, you're also a top-notch clip artist. Talk about how you got into clips.

Spanks: As I mentioned earlier, I got into camming by making hot videos (and pictures) for guys I was seeing. I always loved making clips. After camming for a while, my customers began showing interest in purchasing videos of me. This was so exciting.

I immediately started filming and selling them videos I filmed on my phone or with my webcam and they loved them almost as much as I loved filming them! So naturally, I began looking for ways to improve my clips. I invested in cameras, editing software and a way to make my videos reach all new audiences. That's when I found ManyVids — an entire site dedicated to the thing that I loved doing the most!

XBIZ: To what do you attribute your success on ManyVids?

Spanks: I believe my success as a clip model on ManyVids has a lot to do with my passion. I have always loved making naughty clips and my customers can see the passion and love I have for my work in every clip I upload. This was never something I started doing for money. I got into clip making authentically out of my own interests and I really believe it shows.

XBIZ: How do you balance your time and resources between camming and clips?

Spanks: I've constantly heard the phrase that hard work is the key to success. And while I agree, I also disagree. Yes, hard work is important, but I believe you need to work hard and smart to achieve success.

I have a pretty hectic life outside of my camming and clip-making business, so working smart has really helped me keep on the right track. What do I mean by that? Well, because of my busy life, I am only able to cam one to three times a week.

I personally don't know of any other full-time cam models that often cam only once a week. That's why I make the best of my time. I set goals during my cam shows that I am interested in filming and when I reach those goals I film them.

Depending on the quality of the cam shows I record (webcam or camera quality, length of the video, etc.) I edit and upload the recordings to either ManyVids to be sold or for free on porn sites where I make a commission based on ad revenue.

So out of one cam show, I can potentially film one to four videos that will make me just as much or more than what I earned from those shows and I triple my income. That's working smart.

XBIZ: What was it like sharing your wisdom at XBIZ L.A. this year, and then being chosen as an official XBIZ Miami ambassador?

Spanks: XBIZ L.A. was the first XBIZ show I have ever attended and to be asked to speak on the topic of social media was amazing. I was so incredibly honored and excited to be chosen to share my wisdom, especially on the topic of social media.

I have always said that if I were to pursue any other career in life it would be in social media — it is something I am really passionate about. The seminar was really well received and as a result of that, I had people coming up to me the entire week in L.A. asking me questions about social media because there wasn't enough time to fit it all in the seminar. It was really amazing!

I had such a blast and learned so much from XBIZ L.A. this year so I couldn't be more excited to be chosen as an official XBIZ Miami ambassador! I want to share with everyone my amazing experiences at XBIZ because I truly believe it is an amazing resource for cam models and clip stars to get more serious about the business and learn so much.

XBIZ: Describe your overall strategy for marketing yourself on social media.

Spanks: From day one of creating my presence on social media, I decided I would only ever put out positive things into the world through my platforms. Even when I only had 50 followers on Twitter all I ever wanted was to make people's days better.

The world is such a stressful place, so creating a space for people to smile, laugh and let off some steam is more important than you may think. Not that this is an easy task to accomplish — coming from me, someone who suffers from chronic depression, I get it. It's hard to always be positive, but it is so important.

I often see models that are struggling, post nothing but negative things, and from a business standpoint, I really think that's a bad idea. As cam models, we have such a huge platform and influence, so why not use that for good?

When people see me on social media, my only goal is to make them smile and that has such a positive effect on my brand and my work. People come to my cam shows or buy my videos because I make them feel good. How I make people feel on social media converts into customers on cam and clip sites.

XBIZ: Any advice for aspiring cam models? How about for new clip artists?

Spanks: I get asked this question a lot and my response is always the same. Do your research and then do it again. Go to different sites, watch cam models, look around clip sites — see what's successful and what's trending and then ask yourself how you can make what you see better.

Try to see your work through your customer's eyes. It may take a while to come up with something that is successful and that works for you, but it's worth it. Keep working, keep researching and keep finding ways that you can work smart.

XBIZ: What are your ambitions for 2018, and beyond?

Spanks: I have so many ambitions for this year alone! I recently bought my first vlog camera and have been traveling through the U.S. and Canada, vlogging my adventures. I want to grow my vlogging channel and travel more this year than I ever have. I also want to start filming more videos this year, too, so I can eventually launch my very own membership website.

However, my long-term ambitions are a little all over the place. I want to do so much with my life and in this industry. I often find myself getting really passionate about a long-term goal and then changing my mind a few weeks later to dive into another long-term goal. I may not have my mind made up right now about what the future holds for me, but I do know I will do it with passion and I am excited to get where ever I am going.
