As part of XBIZ World’s “Execs of 2018: The Year in Review,” the digital media market's most prolific businessmen share their thoughts on the top trends that propelled business this year.

A natural decision-maker equipped with hard-earned experience and unrivaled ability to steer the ship, these exemplary talents define this consummate professional in every area he pursues. With unbound passion this powerful executive was born to lead and driven to succeed.

Each of the executives we spoke to below is among the finalist nominees for Businessman of the Year in the digital edition of the 2019 XBIZ Exec Awards.

What was your greatest accomplishment as a businessman this year?

Mugur Cosmin Frunzetti
Studio 20

“My best accomplishment in 2018 as a businessman was reaching our goal for the year and having 20 studios all around the world. I am proud of this accomplishment of my team as we are the first cam studio in history to reach this widespread diversity, as well as an estimated sales level of over $20M for 2018. But also, the #CamForCharity event we started this year and we plan to continue each year is equally important for me. For the next year, we will have all the #webcamming studios with us in this project and the door is open to all studios, models, cam platforms, affiliates, marketers and other professionals in the live cam industry. For 24 hours, each of us broadcasts as much as he/she likes with symbols of the campaign visible, and all income is donated to help Romanian children with autism.”

Jay
JuicyAds

“My greatest accomplishment this year has been the fundamental change and expansion of our business strategy. This came from rediscovering the company’s roots. Looking back at what had originally made JuicyAds so successful showed us how much we had drifted from that original vision. From this, it was possible to reimagine what the company should be in the future and how it should operate. Since then, we have gained large advantages through decisions and partnerships that we aren’t able to announce just yet. It’s been a really juicy year!”

Brad Mitchell
MojoHost

“I think my greatest accomplishment this year was re-assessing staffing needs in relation to our corporate goals and acting on them. Putting the right people in the right positions at MojoHost sounds obvious, but implementation required open-mindedness with us more than doubling our headcount. Having the confidence to hire and fire based on core values is more daunting than it sounds, it proved rewarding for both morale and productivity. With every team member in a role that plays to their strengths, great things have happened. Letting go of micro-management and empowering everyone to be risk-takers (and even fail) is giving us more wins than I imagined. As the year comes to a close, I feel for the first time in 19 years that we are not starved for talent. MojoHost is ready for dramatic growth in the new year!”

Michael Klein
Gamma

“My proudest accomplishment this year would be going over to such a well-established and industry leading internet company as Gamma and bringing a broadcasting business to the mix of the company’s platform of offerings. Coupled with bringing the managing of Vivid’s broadcasting business now under Gamma has established the company as one of the leaders in adult broadcasting in its first year of being in this type of business and bringing good exposure for all our top Gamma Film products as well as those from our other studio partners who gave us their broadcasting rights to now an even wider audience.”

Michael Reul
TrafficPartner

“Refocusing our business units within the TrafficPartner.com Group has been the biggest achievement in 2018. Streamlined processes and cost-cutting strengthened our core business and boosted our EBIT. We also tapped into new revenue streams from existing traffic and are now selling our members’ area traffic through Adnium.com, making almost an additional seven-figures per month. Our new mainstream dating app, available on iOS and Android, started like a rocket and occupied the top positions in T1 countries in the app stores. It is already adding to our bottom line and ready to grow into additional markets. I am really looking forward to 2019 and believe that we will have a very prosperous year — thanks to all our employees and partners!”

Gregory L. Clayman
Flirt4Free/VS Media, Inc.

“I would say that my greatest accomplishment in 2018 was solidifying my core group of upper management. It took many years to assemble, however it all came together in 2018. I can honestly say that you’d be hard pressed to find another company with such a dedicated and committed first rate management team. These particular individuals care and treat the company as I do and I couldn’t be happier and prouder to be associated with these individuals. It’s not the size of one’s company that matters most but rather the quality of the leaders you choose to surround yourself with and delegate responsibilities to. Together we operate as a highly skilled machine and are a force to reckoned with in 2018 and beyond!”

Understanding 'Indemnification' in Business Contracts

Clients frequently tell me that they didn’t understand — or sometimes, even read — certain portions of a contract because those sections appeared to be just “standard legalese.” They are referring, of course, to the specialized language used in legal documents, including contracts.
