Getting in Character for Stellar Cosplay

Getting in Character for Stellar Cosplay

Its 5:45 a.m. and Cams.com model FoxiMochi is deep into a private show. Clad in a white crop top that says “Come Here Daddy,” she slowly pulls down her black booty shorts to reveal a pair of lacy pink panties and a tattoo that reads “Forever Blackeyed.” She’s not in cosplay for this particular show, but her dark blue Ramona Flowers-inspired hair is always on display — a nod to the character she’s best known for among her growing fan base.

Mainstream media has seen a rise in geek culture over the last few years, and that has trickled into the camming world where cosplay is quickly becoming one of the most popular niches. And with good reason: cosplay can be a fun, creative way to bring in niche traffic and build a loyal following.

Doing cosplay for me is just like being a seasoned actor that immerses themselves to live as that person or character when they are performing.

FoxiMochi knows this all too well, having become one of her platform’s most popular cosplay models. In this cosplay Q&A advice column, she talks about what it takes to successfully incorporate cosplay into your camming experience, and why this art form is as fun as it is lucrative.

What do you love most about cosplay, and why do you like to do it on cam?

Putting on a cosplay you brought to life for the first time is a feeling of accomplishment I can only compare to finishing your first marathon. As for camming and cosplay, I love being a “fantasy come to life” when I wear cosplay for a theme day or sexy private show. When I’m asked for a character I don’t already own, I get to combine my background in fashion with my love of cam modeling and style something from my own wardrobe, which always makes my fans happy!

What's the difference between costumes and cosplay?

When I wear a costume, I always feel unfamiliar with the character at first and often worry about being asked questions I can’t answer. That’s why I research, read and watch anything I can, to truly become that character before doing the cosplay. Doing cosplay for me is just like being a seasoned actor that immerses themselves to live as that person or character when they are performing. I adore how I really feel like the character I’m wearing at the time.

Which cosplay is the most popular with your fans? Why do you think they connect with it so much?

Ramona Flowers! The first thing fans notice is my signature FoxiMochi hair which is a lot like Ramona’s. We even share a lot of facial qualities so I’m often complimented for looking like Ramona both in and out of character. I am also a huge tea snob … I admit it! Put all of these things together in one package and you come to find that FoxiMochi actually is Ramona Flowers. People like a real person, so they are interested in the model behind the cosplay, too.

What goes into creating a cosplay costume?

When you personally connect with a character, you want the best because you want this cosplay in your collection forever. For example, I put a lot of time into piecing the Ramona cosplay together. I made sure every item was high-quality, even if it meant buying expensive handmade Etsy items.

Where do you get your cosplay inspiration from?

Well, let’s just say in order of inspiration: manga, anime, video games and movies. Though I now have an even bigger source of inspiration since becoming a Goddess with MyGeekGoddess, a group of amazing people that never fail to inspire me every single day. They push me hard to work on my next cosplay ... and my ever-growing list of future cosplay ideas!

Let's say a fellow cam model wants to start doing cosplay on their stream. What advice would you give them on how to get started?

The biggest piece of advice I would give cosplay cam models is to never limit yourself to a single platform. I personally like to keep my options open — if I hadn’t done that, I would never be here answering questions as a featured model. Another reason I suggest this is because there are places for creatives, the arts and more that are also adult-friendly. Through Cams alone I have been able to network with several such companies. Never stop looking for what makes you happy. Ultimately, you never know what else is out there until you try!

FoxiMochi is a Cams.com cam model who adores cosplaying. To get in touch about this story, contact @FoxiMochi on Twitter or Jackie Backman at CamsJBackman@gmail.com.
