Q&A: Alana Evans Talks Gaming, Camming and Talent Advocacy

Q&A: Alana Evans Talks Gaming, Camming and Talent Advocacy

With a prolific porn career spanning 600 titles and more than two decades of performing, Alana Evans has thrived in the biz through its many evolutionary quantum leaps.

Much of her staying power comes from, well, staying ahead of the curve! For instance, way before Twitch was a big deal, she was livestreaming her sexy gaming antics and tapping into the zeitgeist on her PwnedByGirls.com website with a custom setup. After all, she loves to describe herself as "the gamer MILF next door."

My favorite description of myself is ‘the gamer MILF next door’ ... literally!

As a cam model, Evans also rocks the indie intimacy market, when she isn’t championing the industry as president of the Adult Performers Actors Guild.

Recently, she sat down with Instagram/Facebook reps to discuss unfair censorship of sex workers at their HQ in Menlo Park, California, where she had traveled to stage an organized protest and ended up brokering a deal for more transparency, acceptance and communication.

To spotlight such a talented and caring figure, XBIZ joined Evans’ chatroom for this exclusive Cam Star of the Month interview.

XBIZ: What led you to join the adult industry?

Evans: I’ve always been open-minded sexually, a bit of an exhibitionist, so when I got into the industry, it was to become a feature dancer. Filming porn was so much fun, I never left to dance. I found myself exploring my sexuality with every scene I filmed, and loving almost every new encounter.

XBIZ: Tell us how you became involved with camming.

Evans: I’ve always been a gamer. My love for camming started with gaming when I launched the first-ever porn star gaming stream. I wanted a new way to interact with my fans doing something I loved. Topless gaming sounded like the best idea since sliced bread, so I went for it. Over the years, I was able to find different ways to incorporate my camming with video games. They say when you do what you love for your job, it’s never work. I definitely believe that!

XBIZ: How has your porn career influenced your approach to the cam side of the biz?

Evans: Being a porn star definitely helps drive traffic to my shows, and I truly love the fan interaction, but camming is very different than porn. Because of this, I’ve learned to adapt my “on-screen” persona to reflect the real side of me ... the naughty girl you want to curl up in bed with, share your fantasies with or just talk about the latest multiplayer game! I think my fans are often surprised at how approachable I am on cam.

XBIZ: What is your preferred platform for camming and why?

Evans: My favorite platform to cam on is Cams.com! I appreciate the personable service they offer, the fact that my shows are based on premium per-minute shows, and I love the sliding pay scale! I also like that Cams offers the ability to upload clips to sell to my fans or give away to my fan club members!

XBIZ: Talk about your gaming endeavors on Twitch and PwnedByGirls.com.

Evans: I started PwnedByGirls.com in September 2011, prior to Twitch existing, and it’s been an amazing ride. Watching gaming and camming come together on an international level has been incredible. When I started PwnedByGirls, the programming didn’t exist to feed your gaming stream into another program along with your video feed, so we cheated with multiple cams and streams. I laugh at the thought of that now and appreciate how life has changed. OBS is king, haha.

XBIZ: Discuss your advocacy work with the Adult Performers Actors Guild.

Evans: I’ve been working with the Adult Performers Actors Guild since it was formed in 2016. I’ve always been the type of person to help those around me in whatever way I can. As president of the union, I help people in ways I never expected. If you told me 20 years ago that I’d be getting performers signed up for health insurance, or working alongside state legislators to ensure better working conditions, I wouldn’t believe you. I’ve grown so much through my advocacy work as a person, and I have learned many lessons about how to engage with my peers, but the joy I feel from helping a performer in need is what drives me to continue.

XBIZ: What are your methods for engaging fans while camming, as far as private vs. public chat, interactivity and such?

Evans: I try to be myself — a fun, giggly and happy girl. I talk a lot, which can really help break the ice in my room. Sometimes, guys can be shy, so if I just start talking about my day, they’ll chime in. I keep my dirty talk for private messages, along with roleplay discussions. Everyone’s fantasies are different, and I find too much public fantasy chat can change the dynamic of my room very quickly. I love encouraging my viewers to buzz me while I’m gaming! It’s a great way to make my shows interactive, while fun and unique!

XBIZ: How would you describe the “Alana Evans” brand in a nutshell?

Evans: My favorite description of myself is “the gamer MILF next door” ... literally! I’m your buddy’s hot mom who you don’t know if you want to bang or play video games with — it’s basically the story of my life. I’ve always found ways of taking what I love and making it profitable. I feel very lucky in that way.

XBIZ: Tell us about your marketing strategies for your various revenue streams.

Evans: Personal interaction drives all of my marketing strategies. I prefer platforms that allow me to interact with my members beyond messaging. I love being able to create my own content and control my fans’ experience. This way, I can guarantee it is the best “Alana” product available. Since I have taken a break from mainstream XXX productions, I use my platform on Cams.com to post exclusive new video clips my fans love.

XBIZ: What are your main ambitions for 2019 and beyond?

Evans: This year, I hope to continue to grow as a webcam performer, learning from those around me as I work my way through this magical world. I am excited about the future of my advocacy work with the Adult Performers Actors Guild, and I am looking forward to creating more exclusive content for my Cams page. I’ve always said that I would continue my career in the adult industry as long as I was having fun. Here I am, still having a blast! It’s safe to say, I’ll always be here.

For hackers, it’s often a game of trial and error. Bad actors will perform enumeration and account testing, repeating the same test on a system to look for vulnerabilities — and if you are not equipped with the proper tools, your merchant account could be the next target.

It's Time to Rock the Vote and Make Your Voice Heard

When I worked to defeat California’s Proposition 60 in 2016, our opposition campaign was outspent nearly 10 to 1. Nevertheless, our community came together and garnered enough support and awareness to defeat that harmful, misguided piece of proposed legislation — by more than a million votes.

So much of our industry relies upon Visa and Mastercard to support consumer payments — and with that reliance comes increased scrutiny by both brands.
