Q&A: Cubbi Thompson Thrives as Rising Premium Social Media Star

Q&A: Cubbi Thompson Thrives as Rising Premium Social Media Star

Cubbi Thompson is fun. I mean really, really fun! She’s so fun, in fact, that throughout the entirety of this exclusive interview with the spirited 2021 XBIZ Rising Premium Social Media Star, it was her absolute favorite word to say. Which of course makes you feel a bit giddy as you enjoy her presence. Almost like you’re about to... have some fun? Oh, yeah!

When you visit OnlyCubbi.com, her commitment to fun becomes very clear. Whether she’s streaming on MyFreeCams, creating vivacious content for OnlyFans and Fansly, doing silly stunts for her YouTube and TikTok or channeling her inner (and outer) Jessica Rabbit, Thompson is the very incarnation of fun.

I always think, ‘Wow, this is my best idea yet,’ until the next month when I come out with my new ‘best idea yet.’

That’s perfect, to be honest, because we could all use a lot more fun in our lives, to help us enjoy a little bit of escapism and crack a smile.

As for her origin story, Thompson shared, “I was a bored exhibitionist, online one day, when I stumbled upon cam site MyFreeCams, and I thought it looked like tons of fun! So I decided to try it out and have been here ever since. I wouldn’t take anything back for anything.”

Now, her growing fan base of fun-loving fans is a testament to her award-winning career, as she continues rising like the self-styled highly sarcastic comedian she describes herself as on Twitter. They come for the hilarity, they come for the solo and boy/girl clips and they keep on coming and coming and coming to Fun Town for more of Cubbi Thompson, Supreme Commander of Fun. She’s fun-fucking-tastic.

And now for the funnest Q&A ever.

XBIZ: Between camming, clips and premium social media, how do you balance your time and energy?

CT: When you absolutely love what you do every second that you’re working (which is a lot in my case), it doesn’t really ever seem like work. I keep a physical planner in my arms 24/7 and write what I want to do pretty much every minute of every day, just to make sure I’m on track for my goals. I took a break from the schedule for one week to “try it out” and let’s just say it was the most chaotic week of my life, haha.

XBIZ: What is your approach to monetizing your OnlyFans through a blend of pay-to-view and free content?

CT: I post daily exclusive content to my feed every month, and once a week I send out an extra naughty PPV message. I also send out a brand new boy/girl video monthly, as well as a new solo video. I love being creative, having fun, talking and connecting to the fans. OnlyFans became a wonderful creative outlet for me, and now you can find me on Fansly.com/cubbixoxo.

XBIZ: How do you engage fans on Twitter and Instagram in a way that offers glimpses of your daily life, while also promoting paid platforms?

CT: I like to just have fun and don’t look at it as work. I ask myself, “What would you like to experience today?” — whether that’s creating a fun concept for a shoot like being in a ball pit or maybe trying something new and a little weird for a YouTube video, like sculpting butter. Your fun experience for the day leads to fun content for others to also experience. All in all, I like shooting content for all platforms with everything I do, not only for my followers but also to be able to look back on it later as fun memories.

XBIZ: Discuss your non-adult ventures, such as your XoxoShopByCubbi on Etsy, YouTube channel and TikTok presence.

CT: My Etsy shop is a fun place where I create my physical art. For the last three years I have come out with a calendar to ring in the new year and this upcoming year is by far going to be my favorite. I have already begun shooting for it and the theme is really fun. I can’t wait for you to see! I also release fun limited items like hoodies, mugs, prints and more. There’s always something fun in my store.

On my YouTube, I like to try everything I’ve ever wanted to try in my whole life, haha. If I saw something one time and said, “Hmm, one day I’d like to try that” then my YouTube channel is the place where I try it! I’ve swung lightsabers, carved butter, done resin art, did leather work and even tried a rage room. It’s a fun and crazy place over there, but it’s definitely a blast crossing a bunch of stuff off my bucket list. I post biweekly, since something cool is always happening.

And on my TikTok, I like to play with a different kind of art... the art of transitions, with quick drastic changes before you realize what’s happening visually! It’s more challenging to come up with concepts for it, but I’m always proud of the final product, and the creative process to get there is always a fun hurdle to play with.

XBIZ: How has navigating the pandemic impacted your approach to the business?

CT: This pandemic has definitely been tricky and has had its challenges to conquer, but it has had its positives too. I have learned what I do and don’t need, to be able to complete the job I’m involved in. I have learned I can do almost 100% of my job from my home, as well as how to step up my game. Instead of ever feeling bored, do something fun yet productive instead!

XBIZ: How would you describe the "Cubbi Thompson" brand in terms of your overall aesthetic, style and vibe?

CT: I’m overall just a goofy person. I like to have fun, I like to be silly and most importantly, I like to make people laugh — whether it’s with me or at me, I just want you to leave with a smile. One of my idols, Lucille Ball, does this for me; at times, you laughed alongside her with her jokes, while at other times, you laughed at how silly it was that she was not succeeding. Either way, the smile is our ultimate goal. I look like Jessica Rabbit and come with dad jokes all day long, haha!

XBIZ: In what ways have you evolved as a content creator over the years?

CT: I have found who I am and what my passion is, which is really important, I believe. There’s some things that I didn’t enjoy shooting, while there are some things I have found I absolutely adore shooting, and often you just have to experiment to find what works for you. I love how I have evolved in this industry and I cannot wait to see how I continue to evolve. I always think, “Wow, this is my best idea yet,” until the next month when I come out with my new “best idea yet.” The creative juices never stop flowing and I don’t think they’ll slow down anytime soon.

XBIZ: What was it like winning the 2021 XBIZ Cam Award for Rising Premium Social Media Star?

CT: It was honestly the shock of my life; never did I think I would be nominated for an XBIZ Award, much less win! My acceptance speech, though, was hilarious, because I was in such shock that the only thing I said was, “Wow, that’s my name,” when they called me as the winner (which I have never heard the end of, I would like to add, haha). But the trophy sits very proudly on my shelf where I will forever look at it and still be in shock every single time. It is such an honor and I can only dream of another chance to make an acceptance speech and say absolutely anything else because yes, Cubbi, that is your name… haha.

XBIZ: For the rest of the year and beyond, what are your biggest hopes and dreams, personally and professionally?

CT: Coming up this October, I’ll be doing my annual celebration called “Cubtober,” where pretty much every day that month I post a fun Halloween or autumn-themed post. This year, I have more planned than ever, like weekly YouTube videos, 20+ costumes, new exclusive Etsy items, Halloween shoots, games, cam streams and so much more! So look out on my YouTube, my MyFreeCams chat room, TikTok, Instagram and Twitter, because this year will hopefully blow your mind. For all my links, visit OnlyCubbi.com.
