Q&A: It's a 'Women's World' for New Anatomik, Adult Time Series

Q&A: It's a 'Women's World' for New Anatomik, Adult Time Series

‘They say it’s a man’s world? Not anymore,” teases the homepage of “Women’s World,” the latest all-girl series from award-winning streaming service Adult Time.

The premise is simple: Every man on Earth is mysteriously transformed into a woman. From there, an anthology-style narrative unfolds with rom-com fantasies and drama exploring the twists and turns of various characters’ love lives, all loosely connected in this shared alternate universe.

Without giving away any spoilers, we feel that one of the overall messages of ‘Women’s World’ is that gender equality is essential for a well-balanced and prosperous society.

Produced by the creative team behind Anatomik Media, which has created high-end custom fetish videos for the past 12 years, “Women’s World” seeks to infuse the all-girl genre with the spirit of films like “Love Actually” and “Modern Love.”

Anatomik expressed appreciation for the opportunities that working with Adult Time has opened up for its business. Growing from a two-person team to a crew of eight, the company has learned a lot along the way. In this interview, we delve into Anatomik’s collaborative process, cinematic aspirations and production philosophies.

XBIZ: Discuss the basic premise of “Women’s World” and how it offers a unique spin on girl/girl fare.

ANATOMIK: “Women’s World” is a rom-com/fantasy/drama story centering on a handful of loosely connected characters. Suddenly, overnight and without explanation, all the men have become women. Most are unaware of the change and continue on as though they’ve always been women. Only a few have any idea that something is different. Shenanigans and sex ensue.

When we first read the script, we were thrilled! The story was great and we were in love with the idea that the entire world was now made up of women. It’s not the typical love story found in any girl/girl movies we’ve ever seen. That was very appealing to us.

XBIZ: Describe the collaborative creative process between Anatomik and Adult Time.

ANATOMIK: Everybody was really hyped for this as we got started. We would meet with the Adult Time team to talk about the script and their excitement would get us excited and it became a fun project to work on with them.

They are also great in that they allow us to take their vision and add ours to it as well. They gave us everything we needed to get it done, but left it to us to interpret the material as we see fit. They have great writers, so we do try to stay very close to what’s written, but also love to add our own signature to it as well.

XBIZ: How does “Women’s World” draw upon mainstream movies for inspiration?

ANATOMIK: Each character in the movie has their own love story, so it was important for us to make that the central theme. We looked at anthology-style movies like “Love Actually,” “Modern Love,” “Crazy Stupid Love” and stuff like that.

XBIZ: What sort of gender issues will be explored, given the premise behind the plot?

ANATOMIK: Without giving away any spoilers, we feel that one of the overall messages of “Women’s World” is that gender equality is essential for a well-balanced and prosperous society. Most of the stories within “Women’s World” depict characters who seem to not be living their best lives before the change. After the change, everything just seems a little bit better.

XBIZ: How did you approach casting for this film and who delivers a really powerful performance?

ANATOMIK: We looked for the best performers we know of that would embody each character in unique ways and bring something special to the production. There are some phenomenal actors in this industry and we were lucky to be able to showcase some of them in this series. It was such a great cast! Marica Hase was fantastic. Victoria Voxxx and Alex Coal have a great scene together and Serene Siren was the perfect horror protagonist. It just felt like everyone was made for their role.

XBIZ: Discuss your directorial approach to bringing out the best from talent.

ANATOMIK: So, first things first: coffee. We always start the day with a coffee order to help get everybody fired up. Then we get everybody together for a reading of the script. We discuss characters and motivation, then pick apart the scenes. Then we sit to practice, practice and practice until we all feel that we can get a great performance. Then we roll!

XBIZ: Offer us a taste of a particularly memorable scene or character from the movie that fans can look forward to.

ANATOMIK: We had a lot of fun with Serene Siren’s character, who has a hilarious through-line because she’s the only person in the world that suspects something is up. So we follow her through random encounters while she struggles to figure it all out. Serene did a fantastic job bringing the dramedy and we tried to give her scenes a frantic feel as she races around, bumping into all the former men. She was so great!

XBIZ: What is the overall visual style and vibe of the film?

ANATOMIK: Realism with a tinge of fantasy. We wanted to connect the audience to the intimate stories in the script, so we felt that a realistic vibe would best allow us to do that. At the same time, there’s something crazy going on in the world that nobody can quite put their finger on, so there are moments that we felt should convey a sense of wonder or a magical element to help push the story into the fantasy realm. Hopefully, we succeeded in that.

XBIZ: Tell us your plans for marketing the movie and building up hype.

ANATOMIK: Adult Time has a great marketing team that we support in any way we can. We do our part trying to get the word out on social media but their hype machine is way bigger and better than ours!
