Standing Out in a Sea of Streamers

Standing Out in a Sea of Streamers

With more and more content being streamed and posted online every day, it can be difficult for creators to stand out in a sea of talent. This is especially true if you don’t have a large following already. However, knowing how to optimize your profile can get you started on the right foot. It just takes a little know-how and research. With some work, you can rise above the fray and make yourself irresistible to your target audience.

Have Both SFW and NSFW Accounts

Hype fans up by creating behind-the-scenes clips, trailers and photos from your streams, so they tune in for your next show.

Social media can be tricky for content creators. Make sure that you have an SFW profile and a more NSFW one on each platform, in case one gets shadow-banned — or simply banned. Use your SFW profile to share more of your personality: “Get ready with me,” a day in the life, clips of your setups and outfit hauls that you’ll be using for the next cam show. This profile should remain SFW so that you can build a social media presence that will drive traffic to your spicy accounts. You can make mention of being on “other platforms wink wink,” but don’t include direct links.

Know Your Brand and Niche

It’s important to know your niche or persona and create promotional content with that in mind. Otherwise you risk alienating your supporters. If you start with a niche that fits you, like “girl next door,” but later transition into something entirely different, like “femdom creator,” you risk losing the fans who first followed you for the girl-next-door vibe. A rebrand is fine, but take your time if possible. Ultimately, consistency is the name of the game, so make sure you have enough cam show ideas to support a robust schedule.

First Impressions

In order to stand out from the crowd, the content and design of your cam site profile need to be on point. You’ll want to make sure that your profile uses keywords and phrases related to your niche. Words like “busty MILF next door with cute feet” help draw the right audience to your profile and eventually to your cam show. Make sure your profile picture and header match your brand and are attractive, and look fairly professional. If the platform you’re using allows it, adding a welcome video or voice note is also highly recommended.

Get in the Community Spirit

Joining a platform’s community can be a great way to become more acquainted with that particular platform and learn how best to take advantage of its features. It enables you to tap the knowledge and experience of behind-the-scenes execs or other talent who are often happy to reach out and lend a hand. You can also interact with fans in a different way than you would in your DMs. This can help you get a better idea of how fans interact on the platform, and get more feedback on your content and your shows, so you can find out what works and what doesn’t.

Birds of a Feather

Networking and collaborating with fellow content creators, especially those with similar interests and fan bases, can help boost visibility and drive traffic to your profile. If you pop into their streams and notice that what they’re doing generates tips, reach out and establish a relationship. Ask your fans which creators they would like to see you stream with or shoot with. If they’re local and willing to meet up for some mani/pedis or coffee, you can take pictures to share on your socials. You don’t have to shoot content together if you’re not ready for that step, but you can do shout-for-shouts and other giveaway campaigns to help boost your signal.

Spoil Your Spenders

When it comes to your paying fans, remember that small gestures can go a long way in terms of fan engagement. When you make your debut, pay special attention to those who join your fan base or cam following first. If you’re able to make groups, create one for your first 10, 25 or 100 subscribers. Give them extra attention for being in the first wave by offering them discounts, exclusive access to photo sets and a first chance at purchasing new content, not to mention extra love and recognition in your cam chat. Take inspiration from Taylor and her Swifties, or Gaga and her Little Monsters — or your favorite artist — and build a fan club! You can offer fan club members discounts and exclusive photos to make them feel special and encourage further loyalty.

Get Personal With Fans

Most platforms allow you to make notes on fan accounts, so utilize this feature every chance you get. Add personal notes about them, their spending habits, what types of content they tend to like or dislike, etc. Update their username to include any nicknames you use for them. One mistake you want to avoid is expending lots of energy on a fan who takes up your time but spends nothing. Your time is valuable and you should not be giving it away for free. Set the precedent that talking to you is a privilege reserved for those who value you as a creator.

Remember, it’s not just about the content you create or the cam show you put on. Without a strong profile and fan interactions, you won’t realize your full potential. Being smart about your profile and optimizing it, knowing your brand, using social media to your advantage and producing content that resonates with your audience are all keys to building a loyal fan base. Follow these tips to give yourself the best chance of reaching your target audience and maximizing your ROI.
