7 Ways to Subtly Encourage Fans to Buy Videos via DM

7 Ways to Subtly Encourage Fans to Buy Videos via DM

You put your heart and soul into creating content, so when you finally get to post that new video, you obviously want everyone to know about it so the money can roll in — but at the same time, you don’t want to come off as spammy. Sound familiar?

If you struggle with promoting your videos, here are some ways to entice your fans to buy a video directly in the DMs, without being annoying! Using direct messages to boost sales works wonders as it’s personal and direct, but you need to know how to do it right. So let’s get started.

If someone buys content from your feed or subscribes to your profile, it’s the perfect moment to promo your content via DM.

Differentiate Yourself

Most creators offer sexual conversation, so to stand out from the crowd, give your fans a bit of nonsexual conversation. Keep in mind that most of your subscribers might also be subscribed to a lot of other creators. To get them to remember you over other creators, try asking them questions about themselves and their likes. After you build a rapport, they will be much more likely to respond positively when you message them about your latest content. Users are more likely to convert after bonding with you.

Find Common Ground

Once you’ve sparked casual conversations with your fans, try to find organic ways to segue into talking about videos. For example, if you’re chatting with a fan and they tell you that they love spicy food, you could say, “Oh, actually the last video I posted was recorded right after I ate a super-spicy dish, and while I was filming it I could still feel my tongue burning, but I had to keep it cool for the cam, haha.” Just casually mentioning your video to let them know that it exists might make them curious to go watch it, without feeling hit over the head by obvious promotion.

Follow Up After Someone Makes a Regular Purchase

When someone buys content from your feed or subscribes to your profile, that’s the perfect moment to promo your content via DM. It’s as easy as thanking them for their purchase. Hit them with “Thank you for subscribing! If you want to check out recent content, here’s the latest video I posted that I think you might enjoy.” Even something like “Did you like my video? Because I have so many more for you. I think you will also like this one. Check it out!” can be helpful in greasing the wheels.

Offer Customized Content

Make your fans feel special by letting them know that you can offer them customized content. They might be down to buy content tailored just for them. Shoot them a note like, “Hi [name]! I just wanted to let you know that I could make a video specially for you if you want. What would you like me to wear?”

Include Free Content First

A great strategy to get people to buy your content is to give them a free sample first, to pique their interest. Once they engage with your DMs, tell them, “If you like it, I have more content like this” and send them your paid video. The free content will create a sense of need to watch the paid content.

Inform Fans About Your News and Sales

Use DMs to inform subscribers about sales, new offers and any news you might want to share. For example, if there’s a special sale coming up — say, Black Friday — you can DM your fans to tell them about it. “I’m running a Black Friday sale and wanted to inform special fans like you, so that you can take advantage of it first. I’ve seen you liking some of my content, and thought you’d want to know. My video [insert name] is now 50% off!”

Ask for Feedback

Let fans know you genuinely want their opinion on your videos. You can send them a message along the lines of, “Hey, not sure if you’ve watched my latest video but if you did, I’d love to get your feedback! Is it the kind of content you were looking for or would you like to see something different from me? Your feedback will help me create content better tailored for you.” It’s a great tactic because they might become curious and want to watch it. You can even give them an extra tease by mentioning something hot that happens in the video, like “What did you think about the squirt? Was it too much?” You get the picture.

By approaching fans as individual human beings, getting to know them and promoting your videos in a more natural and indirect way, you’ll increase your overall sales and get to know your supporters in the process. The more you know, the better you can cater to their desires.
