Establish Expectations: Market the Fan Perks You Offer

Fostering a vibrant and engaging community of fans takes more than just great content; it requires outlining membership perks and setting clear expectations for subscribers. This ensures that members feel valued, understand what they are getting and know how to conduct themselves within the community. Here are some tips to help you accomplish this.

Defining and Communicating Membership Benefits

Consider adding perks like behind-the-scenes footage, early access to new content, discounts and other offers on videos or live ticket shows.

It is very important to detail exactly what membership on your platforms includes. For instance, do you offer one tier or several? Share the relevant details in a concise and appealing manner. It can be especially helpful to use visuals like charts or infographics to help potential members understand and compare their options.

I recommend having a free tier to attract more new users, followed by one or several paid tiers once you get them hooked. Make sure the various privileges that come with each tier are crystal clear. For example, free members might get basic access to feed-based fare, while paid subscribers get exclusive members-only content and direct interaction.

Consider adding perks like behind-the-scenes footage, early access to new content, discounts and other offers on videos or live ticket shows. If your platform permits, offer digital badges and/or icons that display next to a member’s username in chat.

Setting and Meeting Expectations

It is also important to create a clear, concise list of expectations for your fan club members that outlines appropriate behavior, such as being respectful toward you and other members. Examples might include “Dirty talk is allowed only in tip notes” or “Questions are only answered with a tip attached in a direct message.” Make sure your rules are prominently displayed in your bio and during the signup process.

Once you establish what kinds of interactions free and paid members can expect when they reach out, be sure to respond to greetings, questions, quick chats or even sexy messages accordingly. If a fan does not respect your boundaries, such as by continuing to send sexy messages without tips, you can reinforce expectations by asking for a certain amount up front. Then, if they persist, you have the option of muting or banning them.

To make sure subscribers feel that they are getting value for their commitment, you can send out regular updates about new content, news on upcoming shows and exclusive offers. Use engaging language and photo or video content to keep members excited and informed. Highlight members’ contributions and celebrate milestones to foster a sense of belonging. Regardless of how you set up your messaging benefits and boundaries, it is important to balance honest free engagement with paid offers for your fan club members.

Discounting General, Ticketed or One-on-One Streams

Offering members discounts for access to your regular live shows, or your more exclusive preplanned shows, is often one of the biggest reasons why fans make the choice to up their membership. The price points and percentage discounts creators offer can make a huge difference. Things to consider include the length and frequency of shows, and how much members will benefit from the discount compared to free/nonpaying users. Depending on the platform, creators can make these discounts applicable to just their regular streams, their ticket shows, their private one-on-one shows or all of the above.

Offering Video and Other Content Discounts

Consider granting members discounts on existing or newly published content. This can include photos, full videos or segmented video clips. Creators have the autonomy to choose which videos are released for free or at a discount for fan club members, whereas nonpaying fans/users must pay per post. Additionally, creators can make bundled content packages to offer at discounted rates for subscribers, promoting these bundles regularly to showcase the value of membership.

Granting Additional Optional Perks

Providing ongoing value in proportion to the paid price is key in keeping members hooked. Perks can include flash sales, free recorded streams and/or voice messaging. Creators can also choose to include merchandise such as signed photos or fan gear, personalized experiences like customized content or virtual meet-and-greets, behind-the-scenes tours and themed live shows. Regardless of which perks you offer, it is about making your fan club members feel special to increase perceived value.

Offering valuable membership perks and setting clear expectations is crucial for maintaining a satisfied and engaged community on any platform. By defining membership tiers, communicating value, offering multiple discounted options and making your fan club members feel special in an ongoing manner, you can create a thriving environment that benefits everyone. Implementing these strategies effectively will enhance the overall fan experience, foster a loyal, vibrant community and help you build on your success.
