T-Mobile Preps New Device for Android Mobile OS

LOS ANGELES — Despite earlier reports that Google's Android mobile operating system was in trouble, the OS has another mobile device on the way.

Once again, T-Mobile is behind the new device, which will be called the myTouch 3G. It's slated for an early August release at $199.

Google has positioned Android as an all-purpose competitor for Apple's iPhone. Google’s seeming advantage is that Android can be used on any mobile device and is entirely an open-source enterprise, as opposed to Apple's iPhone OS, which can only run on its native device.

In addition, Google's Android OS also holds promise for adult industry producers and developers because the tech giant has no ban on adult applications for Android-powered devices, though its main app store, called Marketplace, doesn't allow adult content.

The myTouch 3G will include a 3.2MP camera, a 3.2-inch display, WiFi access and 4GB of memory. Basic Google apps like Maps, Picassa and YouTube will come bundled with the device.

One new app also with the device comes from a company called Geodelic and also might interest adult professionals. The app reads a user's current location and displays information relevant to that location. For example, a user in a grocery store might see ideas for recipes.

Geolocated devices have long appealed to proprietors of gentlemen's club for their utility in age-confirmation and other site-specific needs.

The announcement of the myTouch 3G comes soon after good buzz for Google in light of how Microsoft plans to sell the next version of Windows.

According to online reports, manufacturers who opt to use Windows 7 as the native OS for a mobile device will only receive a "starter edition" that won't be able to play DVDs and will lack many customization options.

Online reports show that at least 10 devices are in the works for the Android OS.

But an informal survey of adult industry professionals indicated that the mighty iPhone reigns supreme. Of all industry members polled, only one was planning to buy an Android-powered device: Lisa Ann, performer and proprietor of Lisa Ann's Talent Management. With a few exceptions, all others polled had an iPhone.
