On Saturday, two unnamed men were whipped in public by Islamic extremists who then jailed the men after witnesses reported they were viewing pornography on their cell phones.
The young men were captured by Shebab security officials and then turned over to hooded men who then flogged them before a crowd of onlookers that reportedly numbered in the hundreds.
"The two young men were caught watching porn movies on their mobile phones by the security forces and after admitting their crimes they were punished according to the Islamic Sharia," Islamist official Sheikh Omar Mohamed said. "Each of them got 25 lashes and 15 days imprisonment for involvement in evil deeds."
Strict Sharia rule is reportedly being imposed by local extremist groups across Somalia who either execute or perform amputations on residents who offend their version of Islam.
