Apple Tablet Reportedly Shipping in March

CUPERTINO, Calif. — Apple’s new 10- or 11-inch touch-screen tablet computer will begin shipping in March.

There are no additional details, but the Wall Street Journal reported Monday that a source said that there are at least two different finishes for the device that Apple is either still deciding on or perhaps planning to charge different prices for each.

The touch-screen video display with wireless access will sell for about $1,000, according to industry observers.

Rumors about an Apple tablet have been floating for more than a year, and the Financial Times reported last month that the Cupertino, Calif., company had reserved a location in San Francisco on Jan. 26 for the possible launch of a tablet.

Some speculate that the device may be called the iSlate after MacRumors reported that the iSlate.com domain name was owned by Apple.
