Reality Kings Settles Lawsuit With Florida A&M Over DareDorm.com Video

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — A lawsuit settlement has been reached between Reality Kings and Florida A&M University over the DareDorm.com video.

Miami-based RK Netmedia, agreed to pay Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University $105,000 to fully fund two scholarships in addition to $15,000 in attorney fees. RK Netmedia also agreed to write an apology letter and added in the letter, "we are honored to provide scholarships to deserving students."

"We are happy with the settlement," RK Netmedia attorney Lawrence Walters told XBIZ. "As an advocate of the adult industry, there were a number of interesting defenses that I'd like to have litigated and hashed out in court, but our first job is to our client and we believe our client benefitted through those donations."

"RK Netmedia is extremely philanthropic. They frequently give a lot of money to charities and they do a lot of good and charitable work," Walters said.

Florida A&M filed a suit in U.S. District Court last month claiming the adult company tarnished the school's reputation on its DareDorm.com website in the production of "BigRattler77."

The school said that the video depicted eight individuals engaging in multiple acts of sexual intercourse in what is intended to appear to be a dorm room on its campus.

Further, FAMU said that the "BigRattler77” video depicted the school's orange-and-green color scheme in connection with the “Rattlers” marks and that the video stated that it was filmed "at a historically black college in Florida.”

FAMU had asked the court for an order to make Reality Kings take down the video from its site and destroy DVD copies.

Reality Kings told XBIZ when the suit was filed that the video did not involve FAMU property or students.

"We are surprised that FAMU would devote resources to a claim that we thought had been resolved," Reality Kings said in the statement. "The video was immediately removed from DareDorm.com upon our being contacted by a FAMU representative."
