Major League Baseball Seeks Court Order to ID Porn Postings

NEW YORK — Major League Baseball is seeking a court order to help the organization identify people using service provider Charter Communications to post pornographic material on MLB.com.

Reuters reports that according to papers filed this week in the New York State Supreme Court, one or more people have, since July 2009, posted dozens of “threatening, abusive, obscene, vulgar, demeaning, offensive, pornographic, indecent and inappropriate” messages and images on MLB.com message boards.

Some postings threatened a person named "McCabe" with unwanted sexual acts, while others included images of what the users described as their genitalia, the court papers say.

The organization said it has several times tried and failed to ban the messages, saying it traced the Internet protocol addresses used to post them to Charter.

Major League Baseball is seeking a subpoena requiring Charter to disclose the identities of people associated with these addresses, so that the organization can pursue appropriate action.

MLB representatives weren’t immediately available for comment at post time.
