Aphrodite Productions is co-owned by David Wold, better known in the industry as performer Johnny Depth, and Mark Necamp.
Wold said the company will focus on high-end, plot-driven productions. Aphrodite currently has three titles completed and ready for print/distribution, including “Fetish Punk,” “Cocks & Robbers” and “Club Aphrodite,” the last featuring adult actress Hailey Young.
“We started in March of last year,” Wold told XBiz, “but we wanted to show that we’re serious about being in the business, so we waited until we had three movies ready before looking for distribution. We know distributors want to see [several movies] from a new company, so we invested the money to do it the right way.”
While Aphrodite will primarily produce story-driven features, Wold said he also plans to do a series that has a “Jack’s Playgound” feel to it and that he has had several conversations with legendary adult star Seka about her directing a retro-themed, Swedish Erotica-esque series for the young company.
Wold said he sees an opportunity for Aphrodite to develop a reputation as a premier content provider and production house in the Midwest, but admitted that launching an adult production company in Chicago comes with unique challenges.
“We tried using local performers on our first project, but it just didn’t work because they’re not reliable or committed to being in the industry,” Wold said, adding that the company now flies in talent from the West Coast. For example, Hailey Young of Bad Ass Models stars in “Club Aphrodite,” and April Blossom of the Tera Patrick Agency is featured in two of Aphrodite’s films.
“You just have to be careful to get everything right the first time,” Wold said, “or it can be very expensive to fly girls back for filler shots.”
