SEOUL — Porn is on the rise in socially suffocated North Korea.
A Los Angeles Times report quoted North Korean experts saying that porn is becoming a “secretive regime” that is here to stay.
And government authorities are becoming more concerned about the availability of Western videos.
A North Korean soldier was arrested last March and charged with producing a porn movie featuring North Korean women in their 20’s and 30’s.
The soldier was busted after trying to sell the film to a Chinese merchant.
North Korea made porn illegal in 2009 with a law that carries up to 10 years in prison for possession, buying or making adult materials, but its effectiveness is yet unmeasured.
"The sex commerce will continue to thrive, as North Korean citizens who are exhausted from political suppression and hardships of life see the adult entertainment as a psychological relief," said an anonymous defector.
