LOS ANGELES — Porn star Aurora Snow examines "racist" attitudes within the porn industry in a column posted today on the DailyBeast.com.
Snow begins her piece by recalling the first time her agent asked "Do you do black guys?"
"I was shocked at what seemed a racist question," she writes. "I timidly answered: 'Sure, I guess so. I don’t know what the difference is. It’s just skin color.'"
Snow's column comes on the heels of tabloid site TMZ.com's story on Alexis Texas' refusal to perform in interracial sex scenes, namely those with black men.
Snow accepts fear of a big black penis as a valid reason for porn starlets to avoid interracial shoots, but cites dogmatic attitudes as a more likely cause for their aversion to the genre.
"Most girls in the industry hear at some point from their agent or another performer that an actress can increase the longevity of her career by refusing interracial scenes — at least until directors have stopped using her," Snow writes.
Snow rejects that strategy, labeling it as "outdated." She speaks to porn agent Mark Spiegler, who backs her claim by noting that the more a girl is willing to do on camera, the "wider her appeal and the more cash in her pocket."
"In the old days, you start out slow and work your way up. But now the more you do the better," Spiegler tells Snow. " Sasha Grey and Katsuni started out doing interracial; it doesn’t seem to have hurt them."
