Scripted Indian-American Podcast 'Masala Jones' Explores Race, Sex, Family and Adult Biz

CYBERSPACE — Pleasure Podcasts has launched “Masala Jones,” its first scripted comedy podcast, about Samar, an Indian-American medical school dropout, who dreams of becoming an adult film actor.

Venk Potula and Leland Frankel created “Masala Jones”. The cast includes Potula with Ravi Kapoor, Esther Ku, Meera Simhan, Aurora Snow and Timothy Stack.

The program “takes listeners on a trip down the rabbit hole into the hilariously outrageous world of porn… an industry filled with peculiar customs, idiosyncratic characters and unfortunately familiar prejudices,” notes the promotional text. Samar juggles family drama with his goal of becoming the first Asian-American male porn star. “But on his journey to the big time, Samar just might start a revolution — or ruin his life.”

“Masala Jones” is among the first Asian-American scripted podcasts, a rep notes, and “touches on themes of race, representation and sex positivity — always with a dose of twisted humor. It’s the perfect narrative for fans of ‘Insecure,’ ‘Fresh Off the Boat’ and ‘Master of None.’”

Listen to a trailer here. Subscribe to “Masala Jones” on Apple Podcasts and Stitcher and follow the program on Instagram.

Pleasure Podcasts is “a podcast collective,” said the rep, “revolutionizing the conversation around sex… a community of sex-positive listeners, podcasters and brand partners working to destigmatize sex and enhance sexual wellness and pleasure.”

Shows on the Pleasure Podcasts network include “Holly Randall Unfiltered,” “Sex Out Loud with Tristan Taormino,” “Shameless Sex," "Sluts & Scholars” and “American Sex Podcast” with Sunny Megatron and Ken Melvoin-Berg. Click here for additional details.
