LOS ANGELES — Kate Kennedy has penned a featured article for Hustler Magazine, delving into the world of “Porn Stars, COVID and Side Hustles.”
As COVID-19 swept the U.S. this year, causing businesses to close their doors and forcing millions of Americans to begin working from home, adult performers faced an equally uncertain future, Kennedy noted.
“Studio production largely shut down in early March, causing many performers to pivot toward creating their own premium content,” she wrote. “Signups for fan sites and webcam modeling skyrocketed as a wave of new amateur performers sought side income to survive the pandemic.”
“While many performers simply ramped up production on content they were already creating, some sex workers looked outside the box for creative ways to make a living in a world on fire,” the article continues.
Entrepreneurship
For her debut Hustler feature, Kennedy interviewed camgirl and content creator Lydia Love, who used the pandemic to pursue her lifelong goal of creating a size-inclusive, sex work-positive online clothing boutique; adult performer Farrah Dahl, who has seen the health crisis affect her sexual wellness products business; and marketing consultant Amberly Rothfield, who explains how she has seen her business boom during the pandemic.
“I’m so excited to have my first byline in Hustler,” exclaimed Kennedy, who is also a comedian and podcaster. “The subject of adult performers who moonlight as entrepreneurs running their own small businesses is very dear to me. I think it’s so important to show the world how much talent and ambition exists in adult entertainment, and how multifaceted and hardworking performers are.”
“I really appreciate everyone who took the time to answer my questions for the piece, and the wonderful writing staff at Hustler for being so cool and letting me do this,” Kennedy added. “I look forward to writing many more articles in the future.”
