NEW YORK — Kino Lorber has unveiled a trailer for the new restoration of the classic lesbian adult film “Kamikaze Hearts.”
The distributor also announced that the restored version of the 1986 film will open May 13 in New York at the Brooklyn School of Music, and May 20 in Los Angeles at Alamo Drafthouse, before expanding theatrically nationwide.
“Kamikaze Hearts” was directed by Juliet Bashore and co-stars Golden Age porn veteran Sharon Mitchell.
“Alternately distressing, instructive, contestable and fascinating, Juliet Bashore’s quasi-documentary plunge into the 1980s porn industry takes an unsparing look at issues of misogyny, drug abuse and exploitation via the story of two women — the naive newcomer Tigr and her partner, the magnetic, imperious porn veteran Sharon Mitchell — caught in a toxic romance,” a rep explained.
“By turns mesmerizing and unsettling, ‘Kamikaze Hearts’ is both a fascinating record of the pre-gentrification of San Francisco’s X-rated underground and an intense, searing love story,” the rep added.
The film’s 2K restoration was done by UCLA’s Film & Television Archive.
